Luxury travel looks incredible on Instagram, but when you’re actually spending your hard-earned money, you want to know one thing — is it really worth it?
Not every “luxury” destination lives up to the hype. Some places are beautiful but overpriced, while others genuinely offer that once-in-a-lifetime experience that feels special from start to finish.
So here are some of my favourite luxury destinations for couples that I genuinely think are worth the money.
Maldives
Let’s start with the obvious one.
The Maldives is the definition of luxury travel. Overwater villas, private pools, turquoise water, and that feeling of being completely cut off from the world.
It’s perfect for:
Honeymoons
Anniversaries
Total switch-off trips
Yes, it’s expensive — but you’re paying for privacy, service, and an experience you won’t get anywhere else.

Santorini, Greece
Santorini is one of those places that really does look like the photos.
White buildings, blue domes, sunset views, boutique hotels and infinity pools. It’s romantic without even trying.
Best for:
Short luxury breaks
European honeymoons
Couples who want culture and scenery
It’s especially lovely in May, June and September when it’s warm but not too busy.

Lake Como, Italy
If you want old-money luxury vibes, Lake Como is unreal.
Think:
Grand villas
Boat rides between towns
Amazing food and wine
Beautiful mountain scenery
It feels very elegant and grown-up, perfect for couples who want luxury without beach resorts.

Bali, Indonesia
Bali is amazing because you get luxury without the extreme price tag.
Private villas, jungle views, floating breakfasts, spa days, beach clubs — but still relatively affordable compared to places like the Maldives.
Great for:
Honeymoons
Multi-centre trips
Couples who want relaxation and adventure
You can easily split your time between Ubud and the coast for the best of both worlds.

Dubai
Dubai is luxury in a very different way.
It’s big hotels, rooftop pools, world-class restaurants, beach clubs, desert safaris and insane shopping.
Perfect if you want:
Glamour
Heat
Five-star hotels
A mix of city and beach
Dubai also works brilliantly as part of a multi-centre trip, for example Dubai + Maldives.

Seychelles
Seychelles is seriously underrated.
It’s quieter than the Maldives, very romantic, and feels more natural and untouched. Think lush landscapes, empty beaches and boutique luxury resorts.
Best for:
Honeymoons
Couples who want privacy
Nature lovers
It’s expensive, but it feels special in a different, more peaceful way.
French Riviera
Nice, Monaco, Cannes — if you want European glamour, this is it.
Yachts, beach clubs, chic hotels, great food and that effortlessly stylish vibe.
Perfect for:
Summer luxury
Short breaks
Couples who love city + beach
It’s less “relaxing resort” and more “luxury lifestyle”.

What Makes a Destination Actually “Worth It”?
Luxury isn’t just about price. The best luxury trips usually offer:
Outstanding service
Unique experiences
Beautiful surroundings
And that feeling that you’re being properly looked after
The destinations above all deliver something extra — not just a nice hotel.
My Honest Take on Luxury Travel
The best luxury trip is the one that matches your personality.
Some couples want total peace and quiet. Others want beach clubs, cities and nightlife. There’s no point spending thousands on somewhere that doesn’t suit your travel style.
Luxury should feel special to you, not just look good online.
